Alvor
Alvor is a beautiful and charming fishing town 4km from Portimão in the Algarve, voted by many to be the dream holidays location in Portugal, due to the stunning beaches of white sand, rich deep blue sea and a world of exciting activities.
This charismatic village conserves most of its Moorish historic roots . As a result, you will find the traditional white washed houses while walking along the narrow streets. On the top, the medieval churches and an old castle.
In all, an unique setting together with the amazing beaches, excellent local restaurants and vibrant activities, explains why Alvor is one of the best holiday destination in Portugal.
But then there is also the Ria Alvor: a protected area known for its rich marine fauna and flora. In an effort to increase the protection of the area, a wooden walkway was built, the well-known ‘pontoons of Alvor”.
This walkway makes access to the beach much easier, especially people with motor disabilities or with pushchairs. Only non-motorized vehicles, such as bicycles, can enter. But you can always leave your car in one of several parking areas.

With several branches, the tour will be divided several times. On the right, you will cross the swamp area, where you can enjoy the variety of birds, small fish, crabs etc, until you reach a small beach inside the lagoon of the ria. Following the left, you will be taken along the dunes to the beaches farthest from the tourist areas.
Although it’s about 6 km, linking the Beach Três Irmãos and Ria de Alvor, because you have to go back, you can easily walk 10 or 12 Kms without noticing.
There are rest areas on the way where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the tranquility of the area. An ideal place for a morning run or a family walk at the end of the day.
And, if it’s good weather, you can always get on your bike and pedal a bit before taking a plunge. Or why not, go to your favourite restaurant by the sea!
